Slated for opening in the 3rd quarter of 2023, the MMDA’s Motorcycle Riding Academy will make it just in time for this projection. When this was announced, construction of its facilities was already at an 80% completion rate, and now, it’s all set to take in the hungry minds of motorcyclists who want to take advantage of the free program and learn how to responsibly ride and not be a risk to oneself, other vehicles, and pedestrians on the road.

Given its purpose, Sen. Sonny Angara has also gone all-in with his support. Weeks ahead of the Motorcycle Riding Academy’s opening, the Senator donated 10 brand new motorcycles for the use of the riding school’s participants which the MMDA gladly received.

“I would like to extend my earnest gratitude to Sen. Angara for his generous donation to the agency,” said Atty. Don Artes, Acting Chief of the MMDA, during the turnover ceremony and signing of the deed of donation and acceptance.

For his part, Sen. Angara, who sits as the current chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, gave his assurance that he will continuously support the MMDA’s budget.

“Every year, hindi kayo mababawasan at madadagdagan pa ang inyong budget. Asahan po ninyo ang tulong natin bilang Chairman ng Senate Committee on Finance dahil kinikilala po natin ang dagdag-ginhawa at benepisyo na ibinibigay ng inyong ahensiya sa Metro Manila [Every year, your budget will only be increased. You can expect our help as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance because we recognize the added comfort and benefits that your agency gives to Metro Manila],” Angara shared.

The Motorcycle Riding Academy will provide riders with formal training on both theoretical and practical aspects of motorcycle riding, as well as basic emergency response training. Basic training on handling motorcycles, road courtesy, discipline, and following traffic rules will be given to the Academy participants as well.

The MMDA is all-in with the program, even collaborating with Angkas’ curriculum for its partner riders and adapting it into its own for everyone’s better education.
