Since 1954, Speedster variants have been a hallmark of Porsche’s lineup, offering open driving pleasure and dynamic performance. Known for their shortened windscreen and distinctive rear lid, Speedsters have become a significant part of Porsche’s history. However, there has been a gap in the 911 model history. Since the end of the G-Series in 1988 and the introduction of a 964-based Speedster in 1989, Porsche has not produced a Speedster for the fourth-generation 911 (Type 993), except for two one-offs and a factory restoration model.

Luca Trazzi, a designer from Milan, sought to fill this gap. Emulating the spirit of Ferry Porsche’s determination, Trazzi embarked on creating his dream car, a 993-generation 911 Speedster, with the help of Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (Special Request) team. After over three years of collaboration, Trazzi’s unique 911 Speedster, based on a 1994 911 Carrera Cabriolet, will debut at the 2024 Monterey Car Week in California.
Trazzi, an avid Porsche enthusiast, was inspired by the classic Speedster design and aimed to integrate elements from all previous Speedster models. He partnered closely with Porsche’s Sonderwunsch team to bring his vision to life. This project marked Porsche’s first Factory One-Off for an end customer, involving comprehensive design and technical modifications.
The collaboration between Trazzi and Porsche began with an in-depth exploration of Speedster history. Trazzi arrived with detailed drafts and sketches, leading to a creative and focused development process. The result is a one-of-a-kind 911 Speedster that embodies both Trazzi’s design vision and Porsche’s engineering excellence.
The car features several distinctive elements: a unique rear lid, a specially developed “Otto Yellow” paint named after Trazzi’s dog, and 18-inch light alloy wheels in Turbo design. The interior is adorned with black leather, yellow decorative stitching, and carbon elements, while state-of-the-art infotainment, including navigation and Apple CarPlay, is integrated through Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM).
Mechanically, the Speedster uses components from the 911 Carrera RS (Type 993), including its 3.8-liter, 300-horsepower engine. This model is only the third 993-based Speedster, following a 1995 model for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and a 2001 model for an American customer.
The Sonderwunsch program, revived by Porsche, allows for highly personalized one-off cars designed in collaboration with the customer. This unique service is available for Porsche vehicles of all ages, with work done by either Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur or Porsche Classic experts.
Luca Trazzi, born in Verona in 1962, is an architect and industrial designer known for his timeless designs and attention to detail. His collaboration with Porsche has resulted in a unique and highly personalized 911 Speedster, showcasing the possibilities of the Sonderwunsch program.
