Bugatti has introduced the Programme Solitaire, a new coachbuilding initiative focused on one-of-one commissions, with the public unveiling of its Brouillard Hypercar at The Quail during Monterey Car Week 2025.

The first project under Solitaire is the Bugatti Brouillard, a coupé inspired by Ettore Bugatti’s favorite horse. Built on the marque’s 1,600 PS W16-powered platform, it features a bespoke body and interior created for a private Bugatti collector. That being said, the Brouillard is now technically the final swan song for the W16, and not the Mistral.

“The Programme Solitaire allows us to authentically explore the unique visions of our clients, giving us more flexibility to explore different interpretations of long-established Bugatti design elements,” said Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti. “Each precious Solitaire will be unique and peerless, offering a level of attention to detail not found in even the most exclusive automotive creations.”

The Brouillard’s design emphasizes sculptural surfaces and organic shapes. “It’s heavily focused on sculptural surfaces and organic shapes, as the vision of a tendon underneath the skin. Enormous power and complexity, hidden by a veil of dignified simplicity,” said Frank Heyl, Bugatti Design Director.

Aerodynamic elements such as a fixed ducktail wing and rear diffuser are integrated into the car’s form, while the interior features tartan-patterned fabrics, green-tinted carbon fiber, machined aluminum, and a glass roof. Details include embroidered horse motifs and a gear shifter with a miniature sculpture of Brouillard inside.

“To make something look simple is actually incredibly complex. The design has to integrate all of the technological aspects needed, all of the thermodynamics and aerodynamics of a 1,600hp hyper sports car, while also following a core ethos – established both by us and the client – that the Brouillard was imbued with dignity,” Heyl added.

Bugatti confirmed that Programme Solitaire will be limited to just two commissions a year, each based on existing Bugatti platforms but with entirely unique design and craftsmanship.
