Mugen has been one of the most prolific tuning houses in Japan, it also has been for nearly half a century been closely associated with Honda as the brands go to tuners.
With this much trust and a strong relationship, Mugen has chosen the latest Civic Type R as its newest showcase vehicle for the upcoming 2024 Japan Auto Salon.
Honda Civic Type R Mugen
The tuning house is debuting 2 examples for the show namely Group A and B, both cars will feature aesthetics and some performance modifications.
The Group A version is a milder modification, it has a more pronounced front splitter and a different shape for the front side inlets. There will also be some changes to the side and the rear of the car, although not yet seen in the photos provided. The Group A is a clean and somewhat almost factory example of a slightly beefed-up Type R.
The Group B meanwhile takes it a little further with the same components found in the Group A but adds a carbon fiber hood and there are also additional air vents on the front fenders. Both vehicles’ aesthetic additions are not just looks for look’s sake, the new parts have been aerodynamically designed.
The good news is, that both models also have some performance updates starting with the new 19-inch BBS forged rims, new dampers, and new exhaust systems (Group A stainless steel exhaust, Group B Titanium exhaust).
Lastly, inside the vehicles will get a new steering wheel adorned by the Mugen brand, seats, shift knob, and carbon fiber trim. Pricing for the vehicles will be announced during the auto show.
