Road Rage again: LTO summons aggressive tire-stabbing motorcycle rider

We all know of the recent road rage incident that involved a motorcyclist stabbing a vehicle’s tire, yes? The LTO has caught wind of the incident and has since issued a Show Cause Order for the said motorcycle rider seen in the now-viral video. As of this posting, there has been no update on whether or not the motorcycle driver has already answered the Summons.

It should be no surprise that in the digital age, incidents like this will find their way into the internet sooner than later. Following the uploading of a video that showed the incident, the Land Transportation Office has been tagged and has responded. The license plate of the motorcycle was identified in the said video which led to the identification of the rider. The Show Cause Order was issued at the end of last week and has summoned the rider to appear before the authorities today, March 25, 2024.

“Due to the gravity/severity of the acts of the rider, please be informed that the motorcycle with plate number 851QBN will be temporarily placed under alarm preventing any and all transactions while the case is under investigation,” the Show Cause Order stated. The registered owner of the motorcycle is said to be a resident of Malabon.

Land Transportation Office Chief Vigor Mendoza II went on to say that the issuance of the Show Cause Order should serve as another reminder to all motorists to refrain from engaging in any violent activity as a result of road rage.

“Marami na tayong naparusahan dahil sa road rage at muli ay pinapaalalahanan natin ang ating mga kababayan motorista na iwasan ito dahil kayo din ang malalagay sa alanganin [Many have already been punished because of road rage and we are again reminding everyone to avoid it because you will be put in a compromising situation],” said ASec. Mendoza.

For those who might not have seen the video yet, it shows what seemed to be an argument between the motorcyclist and the driver of a delivery van. The motorcycle driver then pulled out a knife, stabbed the front right tire of the van, and immediately fled the scene. The incident was caught on video and was made public by a netizen; this led to the identification of the motorcycle’s owner and the subsequent issuance of the Show Cause Order.

As with the LTO Chief, let’s all be reminded that giving in to rage while operating (or even as a passenger in) a motor vehicle or motorcycle simply does not pay off. Let’s all bring a lot more patience when we drive, lest we find ourselves going viral in the worst ways.
