MG was one of the first and most successful China brands here in the Philippines, it was their products that paved the way to accepting cars made in China to Filipinos. Now the parent company SAIC is coming to take over, and they plan to introduce a few new EVs in the market.
SAIC EV offerings
With the involvement of the new parent company, the MG brand will likely receive a much-needed boost to keep up with the competition. We can probably suspect that the PH market MG‘s from now on will be the freshest and newest models the brand has to offer.
According to reports they are planning to launch 3 new EVs this year which are the ZS EV, Marvel R, and MG4. The ZS EV is said to have a 46.5 kWh battery system with a maximum range of around 335 km, it also has fast charging capabilities allowing the vehicle to charge to 80% in just 30 mins.
The Marvel R is a European offering with a multiple-motor setup that makes around 288 hp and 665 Nm of torque, with a range of around 400 km with a full single charge. Last is the MG4, which is more of a hatchback that offers a few power options either a 168 hp or 201 hp battery unit, there’s even a 443 hp dual motor version.
No local specs and prices have been confirmed yet but with 2023 quickly coming to a close we can expect official statements from the SAIC brand soon.
