There’s no doubt about how the Toyota Fortuner is one of the market leaders in the Philippines, the 7-seater PPV has dominated in terms of all vehicle type sales and in fact was the top-selling car in the country a few years back. Since then, the brand has kept the formula and vehicle more or less the same, but over in Thailand some significant updates have just been announced to refresh the Fortuner.
Toyota Fortuner Updates
In terms of looks the Fortuner largely remains the same, it retains the same overall front fascia, side, and rear design. Most of the notable updates come in the form of the ride and driving dynamics, the Legender variant (LTD in the Philippines) gets new shock absorbers while the GR-S gets monotube shock absorbers.
Inside, the Fortuner (V variant upwards) gets a wireless charging pad, 360-degree view camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Significant though is that the Legender and GR-S get a new 9-inch infotainment screen that gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The most interesting update has to be that the GR-S variant’s engine is getting a sizeable power bump. While it is still basically the same 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine it now produces 224 hp and 550 Nm of torque. The other variants still retain the non-tuned 2.8-liter and 2.4-liter engines.
The Philippines version of the Toyota Fortuner is sourced from Indonesia and hopefully, the updated models makes their way to our shores soon.
