Bentley has brought back the Supersports name for the fourth time in its history with the introduction of the new Continental Supersports. The model is described as the most driver-focused Continental GT to date, featuring rear-wheel drive, a two-seat layout, and a weight of under two tonnes.

Power comes from a new non-hybrid 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 657 hp and 800 Nm. It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels. Standard equipment includes carbon-ceramic brakes, 22-inch forged wheels developed with Manthey Racing, and an Akrapovič titanium exhaust. Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres are optional.

The exterior has been designed for downforce and weight reduction. A new front bumper houses Bentley’s most prominent road-car splitter, directing airflow to the engine and brakes. Carbon-fibre dive planes, side sills, fender blades, a rear diffuser, and a fixed rear wing contribute to more than 300 kg of additional downforce over the Continental GT Speed. The roof is now made of carbon fibre to cut weight and lower the centre of gravity.

Inside, the Supersports switches to a two-seat configuration with new, heavily bolstered sports seats mounted lower in the cabin. The rear space has been replaced with a carbon-fibre and leather shell. Customers can choose from monotone, duo-tone, or tri-tone interior themes, featuring leather, Dinamica, and carbon-fiber surfaces throughout.

Bentley Chairman and CEO Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser said the Supersports represents a return to more extreme vehicles that focus on driver engagement while remaining bespoke to each customer.

The Supersports originated from an idea in September 2024 to explore how a rear-drive, sub-two-tonne Continental would perform. A test mule was built and evaluated within six weeks, resulting in project approval. It was code-named “Mildred” after Mildred Mary Petre, who set endurance records in a Bentley 4½ Litre in 1929.

The Supersports lineage dates back to 1925 with the original 3 Litre Super Sports, the first Bentley to exceed 100 mph (Yes, a huge deal back then). The modern name resurfaced in 2009 for a 204-mph variant of the Continental GT, followed by a more powerful 710 PS version in 2017. Past models focused on peak performance; the new Supersports shifts toward driver involvement through weight reduction and a revised powertrain.

The 4.0-litre V8 has been strengthened with a new crankcase, upgraded heads, and larger turbos, delivering the highest power density of any Bentley engine to date. Gear shifts are sharper, and the titanium exhaust—developed in collaboration with Akrapovič—provides a more pronounced V8 sound.

Bentley estimates a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of approximately 310 km/h, pending final confirmation. The chassis features rear-wheel drive for the first time on a road-going Continental GT, supported by an electronic limited-slip differential, torque vectoring by brake, and revised calibrations for steering, suspension, and stability systems. ESC settings range from entirely on to fully off, providing complete driver control.

Three new drive modes—Touring, Bentley, and Sport—alter suspension height, damping, gearbox behavior, throttle response, and exhaust character to suit your preferences.

The suspension uses aluminium double wishbones at the front, a multi-link rear axle, and new twin-chamber dampers. Bentley Dynamic Ride, the 48V active anti-roll system, can deliver up to 1300 Nm of anti-roll torque. Braking is handled by 440 mm front and 410 mm rear carbon-silicon-carbide discs, the most extensive braking system in any production car today.

The 22-inch lightweight wheels come in two finishes, with Pirelli P-Zero tyres standard and Trofeo RS tyres optional. With the performance tyres, Bentley says the car can corner around 30% faster than a GT Speed, achieving up to 1.3g lateral force.

The new Supersports is nearly 500 kg lighter than the Continental GT and remains under 2,000 kg. Weight savings are achieved through the ICE-only powertrain, rear-wheel-drive layout, carbon-fiber roof, removal of the rear cabin, reduced insulation, and deletion of specific driver assistance systems.

The redesigned aerodynamic components focus entirely on function. These features include a large front splitter, dual cooling channels, stacked dive planes, extended side sills, B-shaped fender blades, a new rear bumper with a diffuser, and a fixed rear wing. Combined, they deliver over 300 kg more downforce than a GT Speed while maintaining balanced lift characteristics.

The two-seat cabin features lightweight sports seats with 11-way adjustment and heating, as well as a carbon-fibre rear tub wrapped in leather. Carbon-fibre trim is standard, with leather and Dinamica throughout. Supersports badging and an individually numbered plate complete the layout.

Bentley will build just 500 numbered units, with customers able to request specific numbers. Exterior paint options include 24 core colours, plus additional finishes through Mulliner. Five “Design Themes” feature contrasting striping or graphics on the body sides and rear quarters.

Interior options include 22 primary hide colours, 11 secondary, and nine accent colours. Buyers may choose single-tone, duo-tone, or a new tri-tone configuration. Alternatives to carbon-fibre trim include Diamond Brushed or Engine Turned aluminium, or Piano Black.
