It’s been one full week since the LTO began the enforcement of the No Plate No Travel Policy for Quezon City tricycles. As of this past weekend, the agency has already tallied 224 cases of violations since July 1. From impounding units to issuing traffic violation tickets to erring motorists, the Land Transportation Office is not showing signs of letting up.

The LTO released the statistics this past weekend, which are pretty high. A total of 224 cases have been recorded, and of this number, 101 tricycles have been impounded and 123 tricycle drivers have been issued violation tickets since the No Plate No Travel Policy’s implementation on July 1, 2024.

Seen as a means to combat colorum tricycles, this Policy will be a continuing campaign that will work in favor of those who follow the law. This is because “only legitimate tricycles were given license plates when the LTO addressed the backlog for all Quezon City legitimate tricycles a few months ago”.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga TODA leaders and members sa kanilang tiwala at suporta sa LTO. Ito naman ay pagtupad ko sa aking binitawang pangako noong tayo ay mag-usap-usap na handang proteksyunan ng inyong LTO at ng DOTr sa pamumuno ni Secretary Jaime J. Bautista ang mga lehitimong tricycle operators and drivers na lumalaban ng patas,” said LTO Chief Asec. Vigor Mendoza II.

[I thank our TODA leaders and members for their trust and support for the LTO. This is me living up to my promise when we spoke that your LTO and DOTr under the leadership of Secretary Jaime J. Bautista will protect legitimate tricycle operators and drivers who follow the law.]

Mendoza vowed to continuously implement the No Plate No Travel Policy, especially after leaders and members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODAs) in Quezon City have expressed gratitude to the agency for their genuine concern on their years-long concerns.

Also last week, it was reported by some TODAs that they were able to increase their daily income by up to 50% since colorum tricycles have been taken off the roads following the No Plate No Travel Policy’s implementation. As it stands, this is an absolute win for those who, as we say in the vernacular, are “lumalaban nang patas” or more simply, “obey the law”.

According to the LTO, the No Plate No Travel Policy in Quezon City is serving as a pilot test and a nationwide implementation will follow soon.
