All Volvo car models to go electric starting 2019

Swedish-based, Chinese-owned automobile company Volvo has just announced that all of its models launched after 2019 will be either electric or hybrid. This makes them the first traditional automobile maker to begin phasing out combustion-engine vehicles in favor of fully electrics, mild hybrids, and mild hybrids, and will only continue selling their current gasoline-powered models until 2019.

The company, owned by Chinese multinational automotive manufacturer Geely, is set to introduce five new fully electric models between 2019 and 2021, and all future Volvo cars will have electric motors in them. Three of these will be Volvo models, with the other two being from Polestar, Volvo Cars’ performance car arm.

This announcement is another step forward towards a future of minimal environmental impact from the automobile industry.
