TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) unveiled the enhanced GR Yaris at Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, with sales in Japan starting this spring through Toyota dealers nationwide. TGR’s commitment to “driver-first car-making” is evident, as they refined various aspects of the GR Yaris based on feedback from professional and evaluation drivers, emphasizing a continuous pursuit of excellence.
2024 Toyota GR Yaris Updates
The introduction of the 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission broadens the GR Yaris lineup, aligning with Akio Toyoda’s vision to make driving enjoyment accessible to a wider audience. The transmission underwent rigorous testing in various conditions, achieving world-class shifting speeds and optimal control software for a sporty driving experience.
The GR Yaris’s cockpit, inspired by professional drivers, boasts improved visibility and operability. Notable enhancements include a tilted control panel, adjusted driving posture, and a reversed shift-lever manual-mode gear shifting for a racing-like experience.
Under the leadership of Morizo, TGR has increased the engine output to 300 hp and torque to 400 Nm, aiming to boost competitiveness in motorsports. The exterior design incorporates motorsports insights, featuring lightweight components for easy restoration and improved cooling performance.
Chassis and body reinforcement, along with a new “Cooling Package,” contribute to enhanced handling stability. The standard “Drive Mode Select” and the introduction of “Circuit Mode” offer customizable settings for varied driving preferences.
TGR plans to continue its motorsports journey with the GR Yaris and introduces an upgrade service for the GRMN Yaris, incorporating lessons learned from the evolved GR Yaris and motorsports participation. Additionally, special editions like the GR Yaris RZ “High performance・Sébastien Ogier Edition” and GR Yaris RZ “High performance・Kalle Rovanperä Edition” will be launched, showcasing TGR’s commitment to performance and innovation.
