Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) unveiled the Aura NISMO RS Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, presenting a higher-performance evolution of the Aura NISMO and signaling the brand’s interest in a potential production version.

The Aura NISMO RS Concept is positioned as a hot hatch developed as a technical validation model. It combines the compact Aura NISMO platform with the higher-output e-POWER system from the X-Trail NISMO, using Nissan’s series-hybrid technology to deliver more power to the wheels. According to Nissan, the concept brings together production-based vehicle technologies and motorsports development know-how, with studies underway for both future commercialization and possible racing applications.

Visually, the concept builds on the Aura NISMO’s “Agile Electric City Racer” theme, adopting a more aggressive, performance-focused appearance. The body is significantly widened, with fenders expanded by 145 mm, while ride height is lowered by 20 mm to reduce the center of gravity. Aerodynamic updates include a front spoiler, side skirts, airflow-optimized front fenders, side air splitters, and a rear diffuser and rear spoiler, all accented with NISMO’s signature red highlights. Nissan says these elements are designed to increase downforce while reducing drag. The car is finished in a Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray paint intended to maintain a uniform appearance under varying light conditions.

Performance development centers on pairing the Aura NISMO’s relatively light body with the X-Trail NISMO’s high-output e-POWER drivetrain. The system is supported by NISMO-tuned e-4ORCE all-wheel control, wider track, and high-grip tires to improve traction and cornering stability. Braking has been upgraded with four-piston units at the front and two-piston units at the rear to compensate for an approximate 100 kg weight increase compared to the standard Aura NISMO.

In terms of size, the Aura NISMO RS Concept measures 4,262 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,485 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The vehicle weight is listed as 1,490 kg. Power comes from a front-mounted BM46 electric motor producing 150 kW and 330 Nm, and a rear MM48 motor rated at 100 kW and 195 Nm. Electricity is generated by a 1.5-liter KR15DDT engine with a displacement of 1,497 cc, producing 106 kW and 250 Nm. Suspension consists of an independent strut setup at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. The concept rides on 18×9.0J NISMO LM GT4 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires sized 245/45R18.

Yutaka Sanada, president and CEO of NMC, said the concept aligns with Nissan’s Re:Nissan strategy, which prioritizes the rapid introduction of so-called “heartbeat models.” He described the Aura NISMO RS Concept as the first product born from NMC’s combined expertise and reiterated NISMO’s long-standing focus on translating motorsports experience into customer-facing vehicles.

Nissan and NMC stated that development of the Aura NISMO RS Concept will continue as they evaluate its feasibility for production and further motorsports use.
