The CAVITEX C5 Link Sucat Interchange has just been opened, and that’s good news. What makes it better is that for the next few days, using it will be toll-free! As of 6:00 PM on June 23, 2024, the new Sucat Interchange has already opened for the motoring public, and in the interest of introducing the new roads and curbing the effects of continuous fuel price increases, it will be free to enter (and exit) for everyone (“for a limited time”) and for now, at least.
CAVITEX C5 Link Sucat Interchange opens, no toll fees to be collected in 1st month
During the inauguration of the new Interchange – alongside the groundbreaking rites of the CAVITEX links to C5 Road (Segment 3B) and to Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) – it was said that the 1.2-kilometer-long CAVITEX-CALAX Link “would have a substantial impact on the road network connectivity from Kawit to the greater Calabarzon region”. This direct connection to CALAX (Cavite-Laguna Expressway) is seen to ease the traffic jams at the intersection of Tirona Highway and Centennial Road.
Following the Sucat Interchange’s opening, the hope is that traffic can begin improving given that it can service an estimated 23,000 vehicles daily along its 1.9-kilometer span.
For everyone’s convenience, you can refer to the maps below to familiarize yourselves with how to navigate in and around the C5 Link Sucat Interchange.
Also during the inauguration, PBBM announced that the Philippine Reclamation Authority or PRA, as the operator of the Manila-Cavite Expressway system, has proposed to suspend the collection of toll fees when using the expressway road network. That has, of course, been accepted (or so it seems according to PBBM’s call to the TRB for its immediate implementation). Once implemented, all types of vehicles passing through the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway in Taguig, ParaƱaque, Las PiƱas, Bacoor, and Kawit can do so toll-free. The duration will be 30 days, and just to clarify, this has yet to start/be implemented.
In his speech, PBBM said, “…let us carry on with that promise that we have made to Build Better More. Let us not just build roads; let us build connections that will unite and bring us closer than ever, and create pathways that will be the stream through which our vibrant society will pulse.”
The C5 Link Sucat Interchange has made very steady progress in the past few months, and now, it’s finally open for the use of the public. This, along with the rest of the construction of expressways connecting Manila, Cavite, and Laguna are – according to PBBM – part of his pledge to “carry on the building of infrastructure projects that will benefit the economy and the Filipino people through the Build Better More (BBM) program when he assumed office nearly two years ago”.
Regardless of who sits atop the national government, it’s projects like this (these) that can help everyone as well as the country’s economy. God knows that the Philippines does need all the help that it can get both from within and from foreign sources alike to get us back on the map, and the development of infrastructure for better, safer, and more convenient travel is vital and essential for this to be done.
For now, we have a good amount of time to enjoy using the CAVITEX C5 Link Sucat Interchange for free, so for those who will take advantage of this, do drive safely out there. Once the TRB implements the 30-day toll-free proposal for the rest of the Manila-Cavite Expressway, that would be a lot more fun for everyone.
Here’s to looking forward to the completion of the entire project!
