EDSA Bike Lane Program sees Decathlon PH donating 20 brand new bicycles to MMDA
The Edsa Bike Lane program is but one of the many projects that the MMDA has on its plate. With hopes of utilizing it more – and better – the idea of sharing it between bicycles and motorcycles has been suggested. The agency had a talk with major stakeholders on its possibility and feasibility yesterday, but leading up to that meeting, Decathlon Philippines has made a donation to better the suggestion’s study and progress.

The turnover of the 20 brand-new bicycles was held after yesterday’s flag ceremony at the MMDA headquarters in Pasig. Agency Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes took delivery of the bikes and expressed his gratitude for Decathlon Philippines’ donation. The bikes will be valuable and will be used for the agency’s EDSA Bike Lane Program.
Tomas Barba, Marketing Leader of Decathlon Philippines, hopes as much, that their donation of bicycles as well as helmets and bike racks will prove beneficial for the MMDA’s project.

As we speak, the MMDA is conducting preliminary studies on the possibility of implementing a shared EDSA Bike Lane for both bikes and motorcycles. The meeting with major stakeholders was held yesterday and updates have yet to be given by the agency, but trust that we will keep you, our readers, abreast should that information come in. Such a meeting is, after all, very important in order to consult all those involved and for the MMDA to reach a conclusion that it will subsequently submit to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The DOTr will have the final say on whether the EDSA Bike Lane will end up being a shared lane or not.

Hopefully, these bicycles will be put to good use and help in effectively studying and coming up with parameters and feedback on the MMDA‘s EDSA Bike Lane project. Public opinion is divided with concerns on safety but as more adept individuals take to the road on these bikes, we hope real information from daily use will come of it.
