There is a lot going on today, July 24, 2023. As such, the Modified Number Coding Scheme or the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program has been declared suspended by the MMDA. Mainly, the State of the Nation Address is scheduled to be held today, and on top of that is a threat of an incoming storm, as well as the start of a planned 3-day transport strike. But as many of you might have asked about, and perhaps expected, one city has decided that it will maintain Coding for today: Makati.
Number Coding will still be in effect in Makati today
Held once a year, it has become rather normal for the Number Coding to be lifted on the day of the SONA. Given the other situations we’ve mentioned above, this year there’s a little bit more reason to justify why it’s implementation is being suspended today. The MMDA gave its announcement last Saturday, but a lot of netizens had to take to the internet to ask a most important question: does the MMDA’s announcement cover the Number Coding of Makati as well?
Late last night, July 23, the public got its answer. As posted on the My Makati social media page, the city has declared that Coding will still be implemented today. The chances of the LGU backpedaling are slim, and as it stands, those who can travel freely around other cities under the MMDA‘s jurisdiction may want to steer clear of Makati if they’re using a “coded” car today.
So that settles it; except in the Repub, err, City of Makati, the Number Coding Scheme is lifted today, July 24, 2023.
For those who are traveling today, particularly heading in and out of the Commonwealth area of Quezon City, you may want to read this important bit of information on the SONA rerouting schemes as well.
Happy Monday, and do drive safely out there, ladies and gentlemen.
