Yesterday, the CAVITEX toll fees increased for Class 1 to Class 3 vehicles. They also announced some lane closures along the highway on the same day, specifically at the C5-CAVITEX Link Flyover.
CAVITEX Lane Closure
The said closures will affect both the East- and West-bound lanes of the link flyover, albeit only single lanes will be closed to traffic at a time. It’s scheduled for about three weeks beginning on May 29 until June 21. This is to make way for road maintenance works to ensure that the patch of road is safe for all who ply through it on a daily basis.
To ensure that traffic is kept moving and to ensure the safety of motorists, traffic marshals will be deployed on-site, 24/7.
The maintenance works come at a time when the Toll Regulatory Board has just rolled out its approved toll fee increase for the use of the highway.
Toll fee increase
The toll hike was originally scheduled to be implemented on May 12 but was postponed to yesterday, May 23. In the new toll fee list, Class 1 vehicles will have to pay PHP 33.00. Class 2 vehicles will likewise have a new toll fee of PHP 67.00. For Class 3 vehicles, they now have to fork PHP 100.00 once they reach the toll plazas.
It’s worth revisiting the fact that the postponement was to give PUV drivers and operators a reprieve of sorts. A program has also been launched for those in this group to continue enjoying the original toll fee rates, provided that they register their RFID accounts into the program in coordination with their respective transport organizations.
The good news is that the news of repairs and closures came about a week early. This (may) give motorists using CAVITEX some more time to plan their travels accordingly. No one wants to get stuck in traffic unawares, right?
