The Injunction issued by the Supreme Court will have inevitable consequences. As expected, the LTO had to set Driver’s License renewal schedules anew since the agency can no longer issue new plastic card Licenses. This is a major setback in what was supposed to be a “victory” for the Land Transportation Office and motorists who’ve waited for their physical License cards. None of the cards in the existing supply can be used, nor can any new ones be ordered for now, and given that, here’s what you need to know about renewing your License.
New Driver’s License Renewal dates in light of Court Injunction
As it stands, only the backlog until June this year can be addressed with whatever existing plastic card supply is at the LTO’s disposal. Those who will have (gone and have) to go through a Driver’s License renewal after that will again be issued with paper-printed Licenses in the meantime.
For motorists whose licenses expired in April, May, and June of this year, you can see the latest date on which you must renew your Driver’s License.
April 1 – 30, 2023 Expiry date – Renewal until November 6, 2023
May 1 – 31, 2023 Expiry date – Renewal until November 30, 2023
June 1 – 30, 2023 Expiry date – Renewal until December 31, 2023
Please do note that Driver’s Licenses set to expire in November 2023 will have their validities extended until April 2024.
Failure to process a Driver’s License renewal within the set dates will mean the expiry of the License, plus the accompanying fees for renewing an already-expired License, so if yours expired within the above-mentioned dates, it would be best to take note of your new license renewal dates.
The LTO and the motoring public were very hopeful that at least one problem could and will finally be addressed. This is another wrench in the gears because we will now have to wait for both plastic License cards and license plates again. The Land Transportation Office and everyone else can’t seem to catch a good break, and we can only hope that the Injunction – or the case – gets lifted sooner rather than later.
Until such time, our wait begins. Again.
