The wait is over! For those who have been waiting for the 5-door Suzuki Jimny, it’s just been unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023 in India! Much speculation has fueled the “longer”, more spacious version of the Jimny, but today, its covers are drawn back for the world to see.
Suzuki Jimny: same looks, 2 extra doors
Maruti Suzuki has just unveiled the 5-door Jimny in India. A lot of fans have been excited for a bigger version of Suzuki’s pint-sized “SUV”, and while it looks pretty much the same both inside and out, the 2 extra doors in the back seem to be well worth the wait for most. The best way to talk about its difference is with its numbers.
The 5-door Jimny measures 3,985mm long, 1,645mm wide, and 1,720mm tall. To put that into perspective, the 3-door version is only 3,650mm long – measurements for both 3- and 5-door lengths include the spare tire mounted at the back. The width remains the same down to the last millimeter, but the 5-door version is slightly lower compared to the 1,725mm height of the 3-door. It should be easier to live up to its being a 4-seater, then, and the extra length may bode pretty well for those who’ll occupy the rear seats.
As for the interior, there’s no magic here; it’s still the same as what you’d see on the 3-door Jimny. Everything from the dashboard, its layout, materials used, and even the upholstery have simply been retained in the longer variant. In-car entertainment is still provided by the same touchscreen infotainment screen, and the good news is that it still has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Providing power to the 5-door Jimny is the same K15B motor. This 1.5-liter gasoline engine is good for 104 HP and 134 Nm of torque. Transmission options are either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual; we’d like to think the latter would sell like hotcakes. Not to be forgotten, the biggest draw of the Jimny which is a 4×4 drivetrain is still present in the 5-door release. Yes, you can still take to the beaten path in this one!
The Suzuki Jimny has amassed a great following in the Philippines, and a lot have also been waiting for the 5-door version. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time before Suzuki PH brings it here, yes? Please, make it happen!
