“These vehicles are tools to help communities in urgent need, equipped with modern electric technology and rescue features,” said Zobel de Ayala.

The vehicle donation is part of a wider initiative launched in response to Typhoon Carina. From July 25 to December 31, 2024, ACMobility and BYD Philippines pledged to donate USD 100 for every BYD Sealion 6 DM-i unit sold. Proceeds are used to fund disaster preparedness kits, water filtration systems, and emergency response equipment.

The Ayala Foundation will deploy the vehicles as part of its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) program, in partnership with local NGOs and communities across Luzon.

“Every second matters in a crisis, and these vehicles help us reach vulnerable communities faster and safer,” said Lambino.

Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Use
The BYD Shark 6 DMO is powered by a Dual Mode Off-road powertrain with two electric motors supported by a 29.6 kWh Blade battery and a 1.5-liter turbo generator. It produces 435 PS and 650 Nm of torque, can carry 835 kg of cargo, tow up to 2,500 kg, and traverse water up to 700 mm deep—features that make it suitable for flood rescue and relief missions.

The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i SUV uses Super DM-i technology, offering an electric-only range of 105 km (NEDC) and a total range of up to 1,100 km. Both vehicles are equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) systems, enabling them to power electronic devices in areas without electricity.

“At BYD, we believe electric mobility can be life-saving technology. We’re proud to contribute to the Ayala Foundation’s mission,” said Hu.

Used on the Ground
Following recent storms Crising, Dante, Emong, and heavy monsoon rains, the Ayala Foundation used the BYD Shark 6 vehicles to deliver aid to flood-affected barangays in Quezon City, Malabon, Navotas, Manila, and Marikina on July 25 and 26.

The Ayala Group and BYD dealerships distributed more than 900 food packs, 500 emergency Go Bags, and 2,500 antibacterial medicines. Local government units assisted in the distribution.

In La Union, where Typhoon Emong disrupted power supply, BYD La Union used the V2L feature of the Shark 6 and Sealion 6 to provide free phone and gadget charging to affected residents over the weekend.

These efforts underscore the shared goal of ACMobility, BYD Philippines, and Ayala Foundation to use electric mobility and innovation to support disaster resilience and aid delivery. This also proves the value and usefulness of electrified vehicles during times of need.
