C5 Service Road partial closure on June 3-5 for World Bicycle Day

Heads up, motorists! In celebration of World Bicycle Day, there will be a partial closure of the C5 Service Road near Bayani Road. The City of Taguig will be launching the Safe Street Program to coincide with World Bicycle Day on June 3. The Program, though, will be held for three days from today until the 5th of June, Sunday.

The closure of portions of the service road near Bayani Road is to give way to the Safe Street Program. The Program aims to provide a “space that may be used for recreational activities for our (Taguig) residents”. It will be done by temporarily converting a street into “a safe, open space for all”, according to the official Facebook page of I Love Taguig.

For the duration of the Program, motorized vehicles will be prohibited from traversing the closed road on the following dates and accompanying hours:

June 3 (Friday) and June 4 (Saturday), 2022 – 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

June 5 (Sunday), 2022 – 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

On June 5, the City of Taguig will also hold a number of events that will include bike lessons, advocacy talks, party games, and the giving out of raffle prizes to those who will go to and participate in the Program. The closed-off portion of the C5 service road will also have bike shops, food stalls, and a lot of open space for various outdoor activities.

The United Nations officially designated World Bicycle Day on June 3. Worldwide, different countries including the Philippines have come up with ways to celebrate it, and this year, it comes with the aforementioned activities, all courtesy of Taguig.

With that, those with non-“padyak”-powered means of transportation will have to plan their travels along C5 accordingly. Roads are for everyone, including bicyclists and their bikes, right? Just plan ahead to avoid any potential traffic build-up in the area.

And to those who will go to the Safe Street Program festivities, enjoy!
