Honda Cars PH wins Triple Platinum at 6th SPMJ Awards for Outstanding CSR

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has been honored with three platinum awards at the 6th Driven to Serve Awards organized by the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ). These prestigious awards recognize HCPI’s outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the areas of road safety, environmental protection, and education.

One of the awarded projects, “Teen Smart with Honda SENSING Demonstration for Students,” exemplifies HCPI’s commitment to promoting road safety. In collaboration with AIESEC Philippines, an international organization of student youth leaders, HCPI conducts interactive learning sessions for college students. The program includes classroom instruction on safe driving behavior, complemented by hands-on experiences with Honda SENSING–equipped models like the All-New BR-V, Civic, and HR-V. The incorporation of Honda SENSING demonstration enhances participants’ understanding of the technology’s role in safeguarding drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. This initiative aligns with Honda’s global goal of achieving zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050.

Another awarded endeavor, the “Recycling of Used Lead Acid Batteries and Industrial Oil” project (Bantay Baterya and Bantay Langis), reflects HCPI’s dedication to reducing resource consumption and pollution. Established in 2006, this initiative involves a partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Oriental – Motolite Marketing Corporation. The program has expanded its reach to include associates, dealers, suppliers, and customers, fostering a collective commitment to environmental protection. To date, the project has successfully collected and recycled approximately 110,000 kg of used lead acid batteries and 10,000 liters of used oils. The funds generated from recycling efforts contribute to supporting environmental projects, including the protection and preservation of La Mesa Watershed and the maintenance of La Mesa Eco Park.

The third platinum-awarded project, the “Innovation Contest for Senior High School Students in the Philippines,” is a collaborative initiative between HCPI and the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). This competition, known as “imake.wemake:create.innovate.collaborate,” encourages creative, innovative, and collaborative thinking among senior high school students. Participants are tasked with solving community problems or achieving specific objectives using critical thinking, experimentation, risk analysis, engineering, and technical skills. The competition has gained substantial traction, with 89 project proposals received from public and private high schools across the Philippines in the most recent edition.

During the Final Presentation and Awarding Ceremony held at the Crimson Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa City, three schools were honored with the Youth Innovation Award based on their project proposals. The competition has become a platform for young Filipinos to showcase their problem-solving skills and contribute to various fields, including food safety, security, traffic/road congestion, health, education, disaster mitigation, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and the environment.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ms. Rie Miyake, President of HCPI, emphasized the significance of corporate activities, alongside product initiatives, in making a positive impact. She acknowledged the collaborative efforts of partners and reiterated HCPI’s commitment to shared responsibility and collective effort.
