The last time the MMDA reminded the public about electric vehicle registration 16, it seemed confusing to a lot of people. Several reports referenced LTO’s AO 2021-039 which is the consolidated guidelines for classification, registration, and operation of (light) electric vehicles. Today, the MMDA has released clear-cut information on the types that do and do not need registration, what other prerequisites there are for their use, and where.

A lot of attention has been veered towards electric vehicles in general. For the bigger 4-wheeled types, there hasn’t been much of a problem since we don’t have pure EVs in the country yet. Yes, we have hybrids, but those are registered as normal with the LTO.
The light electric vehicles that have been lined up above are being regulated by both the MMDA and LTO because of an uptick in accidents involving such modes of transportation since the start of the year. In case yours does need to undergo electric vehicle registration, then please go ahead and do so.
