Xiaomi EV unveils SkyNomad SUV series, debuts new Kunlun Platform for future vehicles

Xiaomi EV has finally unveiled its new SkyNomad Series at the Xiaomi SkyNomad Technology Launch Event, marking the first model built on the automaker’s Kunlun Platform. The lineup is pitched as a large-space, reconfigurable SUV built around three focuses: interior space, a flat cabin floor, and reconfigurable seating, combined with the Kunlun HyperRange system, Armor Scale Battery, and Kunlun Total Safety package.

Two variants were introduced: the SkyNomad N90 Max, a seven-seat extended-range SUV, and the SkyNomad N70 Max, a five-seat all-wheel-drive extended-range SUV. Pre-selling has already started in its home country of China.

Xiaomi said the SkyNomad’s proportions were shaped around interior volume rather than styling first. The N90 Max measures 5,285 mm long, 1,998 mm wide, and 1,825 mm tall on a 3,080 mm wheelbase, while the N70 Max measures 4,960 mm by 1,998 mm by 1,765 mm on a 2,950 mm wheelbase.

Both models use a flat roofline, a continuous waistline, and a rising sill line, with front and rear lighting positioned at nearly the same height. Design elements including the headlights, taillights, door handles, and side cameras follow a rounded-rectangle motif. The headlights use a dragonfly shape derived from a cross pattern, and the taillights form an inverted U-shape. Xiaomi applied more than 140 aerodynamic optimizations, including a standard active grille, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.255 on the N90 Max.

Electric doors open by touch or voice, and rear doors open to nearly 90 degrees. A 360-degree anti-collision system uses AI to detect obstacles near open doors and can resist opening or issue a warning. Privacy curtains are fitted to the second and third rows, and an optional electric side step is rated to 300 kg per side and tested through 100,000 open-close cycles.

The cabin features a center console extending 1,530 mm horizontally and a two-spoke steering wheel shared with the Xiaomi SU7. Mechanical air vents are hidden within the dashboard, and a threaded accessory port provides 27W fast charging for phone mounts and similar devices.

Xiaomi said 95 percent of high-touch surfaces in the N90 Series are soft-wrapped, covering up to 32 square meters, with the full interior carrying OEKO-TEX certification for infant-grade safety standards. Front and second-row seatbacks use a 12-layer structure, and front seats come standard with 16-point massage, ventilation, and heating; up to four zero-gravity seats are available depending on trim.

Exterior colors include two new options, Mountain Green and Valley Blue, alongside Volcanic Gray. Interior finishes are offered in Cream Beige and Mocha Brown. Wheel options on the N90 Max include standard 21-inch Prism-shaped rims, with optional 21-inch Beam-shaped and Starburst-shaped Stealth Black rims. Bridgestone quiet-tuned tires are standard across the range.

Xiaomi said the Kunlun Platform was engineered around interior packaging across three axes. On the X-axis, a five-in-one extended-range system, integrated water-cooling and refrigerant modules, a mid-mounted HVAC unit, and a combined PTC-compressor unit compress front cabin length to 1,265 mm. On the Y-axis, a split spring-and-shock-absorber layout frees 15 mm of third-row wheel-arch height. On the Z-axis, an integrated rear electric drive frees 145 mm of vertical space, an H-arm independent suspension lowers the floor by 37 mm, and a redesigned battery pack control module reduces floor thickness by 180 mm, resulting in a flat second-row floor.

The N90 Series offers 2,760 mm of total occupant space, with second-row legroom reaching 1.55 meters. Cargo space expands to a maximum of 1,831 liters, fitting seven 20-inch suitcases with all seats occupied, or up to 24 suitcases in the N90 Max’s Ultimate Storage Mode. The cabin includes 34 storage compartments, an 18.4-liter glovebox sized for seven 13-inch laptops, and up to 12 accessory ports.

The floor runs flat from the first row to the cargo area with a 2.95-degree slope, spanning nearly 3 meters with a maximum flat area exceeding 4.4 square meters. Seat slide rails extend up to 1,938 mm on the N90 Max with 900 mm of travel for the second and third rows, built from 7-series aluminum alloy rated to 54 kN lock strength and 57 kN peel strength, and validated through 15,000 cycles.

A sliding center console integrates 50W wireless charging, a 9-liter compressor refrigerator, dual USB-C ports, and storage. All seats are power-adjustable, and front seatbacks use a 15-layer structure with 20 mm of foam over a 65 kg/cubic meter base. The N90 Max supports four-seat zero-gravity mode across the front and second rows, with optional rotating front seats.

Xiaomi outlined several configurable seating layouts, including a face-to-face lounge mode with rotated first- and second-row seats, a four-seat business mode with the second row reaching a 1,550 mm legroom and 128-degree hip/130-degree knee zero-gravity posture, a bed mode extending to 2,300 mm, and a cargo mode offering 1,260 mm of depth.

High-strength steel and aluminum make up 90.4 percent of the N90 Max body, including 2,200 MPa steel in 16 locations. A 2,200 MPa roll cage spans the A- to C-pillars, supporting a roof-crush load of nearly 14 tons and improving A-pillar load capacity by 24 percent. All four doors carry 2,200 MPa anti-collision beams, and a 13-in-1 hot-formed door ring spans the A/B/C/D pillars, improving side-impact load capacity by 19 percent. A 2,000 MPa front floor frame improves occupant survival space by 9 percent in frontal impacts and 10 percent in side-pole impacts.

The N90 Max comes with 12 airbags covering all three rows. Dual-chamber far-side airbags in the second row reduce head displacement for the left-side occupant by 34 percent, and 4-point-mounted far-side airbags reduce driver head displacement by 24 percent. Third-row side airbags paired with a 3,200 mm side curtain reduce shoulder compression by 44 percent and rib compression by an average of 18 percent in side impacts. Nine collision sensors are fitted, including added front and C-pillar units, and crash testing covers 50th-percentile male, 5th-percentile female, and child dummies.

Xiaomi’s Armor Scale Battery program draws on a battery R&D team of more than 230 people, 697 related patents, and a company-operated pack factory, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 700,000 vehicles. Xiaomi said its cell design work reduces cell health degradation by 50 percent and doubles cycle life versus the relevant national standard. The battery includes 18 layers of structural protection and withstood a 500-joule underbody impact without leak, fire, or explosion in testing, while 16 layers of thermal protection, including aerogel insulation, prevented thermal propagation under 55°C full-charge single-cell thermal runaway.

Triple-redundant door handles allow unlocking after full power loss, and the SkyNomad includes dual emergency pull handles on the tailgate for third-row exit. The N90 Max is rated for wading up to 750 mm and includes emergency floating capability for three minutes in the event of submersion. Twenty-six driver-assistance safety features are standard, and 39 anti-pinch points across the vehicle keep pinch force below 150 N.

Cabin electronics run on a four-in-one domain control module built on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, with dual 5G and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. An e-Fuse power distribution system manages electrical load, and an upgraded Flyback low-voltage system can run Sentry Mode and the onboard refrigerator while parked, cutting energy use by 60 percent versus a non-Flyback system.

A head-up display offers a -4.7-degree viewing angle and 15,000-nit brightness. The cabin includes six connected screens, a 25-speaker audio system, and a 6.9-inch rear control screen with access to an exterior sentry-camera view. Up to six magnetic mount points and NFC tags support accessories, and the onboard Xiaomi Hyper XiaoAi assistant can switch among 11 cabin layout modes by voice command.

Assisted-driving hardware includes a 700 TOPS compute platform, integrated forward-facing LiDAR, 4D millimeter-wave radar, and anti-glare cameras, with the N90 Series adding rear LiDAR with 2 cm ranging precision. Xiaomi’s HAD system, running on its XLA architecture, supports voice-controlled driving functions and navigation guidance in underground parking structures, and comes standard across the range.

Battery capacity ranges from 52 kWh to 76 kWh. On CLTC testing, the N70 Max reaches up to 505 km of EV-only range, and the N90 Max reaches 464 km. A five-in-one silicon carbide range-extending drive unit improves efficiency by 2.65 percent, bringing consumption to 15.85 kWh per 100 km. Combined with its fuel tank, the N90 Max reaches a total range of 1,705 km, with a fuel-to-electricity conversion ratio of 3.66 kWh per liter supporting depleted-battery consumption as low as 6.26 liters per 100 km. The range extender requires maintenance every 3 years or 30,000 km after its first service, which Xiaomi said cuts total service costs by 23 percent. All variants support 92, 95, and 98 octane fuel.

Chassis components are shared with the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7, including double-wishbone front suspension and H-arm multi-link rear suspension, with five-stage adjustable air springs and continuously variable damping. Dual-motor all-wheel drive produces 310 kW of peak power. Braking from 100 km/h to a stop takes 38.57 meters across 10 consecutive tests. Despite its length, the N90 Max has a 5.95-meter turning radius.
