Mazda Motor Corporation has developed a new exterior paint color called Navy Blue Mica. The all-new CX-5, currently Mazda’s best-selling model, will be the first vehicle to offer the new color, which Mazda plans to position as a long-term standard navy shade in its lineup.
Mazda has a long history of using blue tones. In the 1970s, Mazda Blue was adopted as the company’s corporate symbol color, and blue was also used during the launch of the first-generation CX-5. To date, Mazda has offered more than 150 exterior colors that include the word “blue” in their names. These colors have been widely used across global markets for everyday driving environments.
Navy Blue Mica is an evolution of Deep Crystal Blue Mica and was developed specifically for the all-new CX-5, with an emphasis on daily usability. The color is designed to deliver higher saturation in highlights and deeper tones in shaded areas.

Mazda’s development team focused on achieving what it describes as a “high-resolution” appearance. This was accomplished by carefully balancing multiple types of mica particles and arranging them horizontally within the paint layers. The revised paint structure improves contrast and clarity, helping body surfaces and design details stand out under varying lighting and weather conditions, including both sunlight and rain.

Mazda states that exterior color remains a key element of its vehicle design approach. The company plans to continue refining color development as part of its broader design strategy to enhance the overall driving and ownership experience.
