As the holidays creep in, apart from the usual preparations of food, presents, and holiday vacation plans, traffic is as expected as Queso De Bola during Noche Buena. The main culprits are usually those rushing across town to the nearest malls just to do all the holiday shopping, especially during sales.
To help with the situation, in recent years the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) coordinates with certain stakeholders like mall owners to adjust their mall hours to allow mall goers to better plan their visits.
2022 holiday season MMDA adjusted mall hours
For the 2022 holiday season, the MMDA will be asking malls to operate adjusted hours, specifically 11:00 am – 11:00 pm. Apart from the adjusted hours, the agency is also asking the malls to refrain from scheduling mall-wide sales during the weekdays. Lastly, there will also be a moratorium on roadworks apart from those that are part of the Governments highlight infrastructure projects.
MMDA spokesperson Mel Carunungan said that these changes are set to take place starting November 14, 2022, and are scheduled to be implemented until the first week of January 2023. A more detailed memorandum circular will be released towards the end of this month.
