The previous iteration of the “Libre Sakay” program was that it was available for all commuters on the MRT-3 line. The newly inaugurated administration though has switched things up a bit.

Libre Sakay switches to students

According to a post/announcement on the official Facebook page of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the new version of the program will only be available to all students.

Furthermore, the program is set to begin on August 22 and will end on November 4, 2022. Another bit of good news is that the updated program will not only be limited to the MRT-3, included are the PNR, and LRT-2 lines.

The move changes were done to address the need for public transportation for students this coming school quarter since a majority of schools will be switching back to face-to-face classes.

As for word regarding the previous scheme of the “Libre Sakay” program? None as of yet, although there is no confirmation that it may never return.
