Toyota may launch 2023 GR Corolla in Thailand, could PH get it?

How’s this for a surprise? it seems the ASEAN region could get its hands on the highly coveted Toyota GR Corolla. It was first unveiled earlier this year for the American market (to appease them for not getting the GR Yaris) and eventually was also given to the Japanese market as well.

Thailand next to get Toyota GR Corolla?

According to a post by autonetmagz.com, The Toyota GR Corolla will be showcased as part of Toyota Thailand’s 60th-anniversary celebration. The momentous occasion is also set to be attended by none other than Toyota President Akio Toyoda, the report further states that Toyoda will be arriving in December and will be personally launching the GR Corolla during the festivities.

Naturally, no specific details have been revealed about the exact specifications of the Thailand bound GR Corolla but we can safely assume that it might share some similarities with GR Corollas found in other markets.

We can expect that the GR Corolla will be powered by the same 1.6-liter G16E-GTS engine found in the GR Yaris, however, in the Corolla, it is rated at 304 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. The only transmission option is a 6-speed manual that sends the power to all 4 wheels or as Toyota calls it the GR-four all-wheel-drive system with a limited-slip differential.

The next interesting bit is the pricing, according to the report, Toyota Thailand is planning to slot the GR Corolla in between GR Yaris and the GR 86.

Lastly, how does this affect the Philippine market? does it mean we may soon also get allocations for the GR Corolla? Well, Toyota Motor Philippines has yet to say anything about it. However, previous conversations with certain brand executives indicate that the Philippines is a top market for the GR brand in the ASEAN region, which is why we’ve always had allocations for the GR Yaris, GR Supra, and GR 86.

Only time will tell now if the sentiment remains true for the GR Corolla, nonetheless, we’re all crossing our fingers.
