In an exhilarating 11-day journey across five Southeast Asian countries, Hyundai successfully concluded the IONIQ 5 ASEAN Tour themed “Go Far with Zero Worries.” The tour, covering Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and concluding in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, spanned a total distance of 3,197 kilometers, surpassing the initial estimate by 446 kilometers.
The primary focus of the tour was to serve as a dynamic proving ground for the Hyundai IONIQ 5, highlighting its reliability, eco-friendliness, and long-distance capabilities. The IONIQ 5 emerged as a trailblazing travel companion, impressing participants with its innovative features, notably the groundbreaking Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology.
What set the IONIQ 5 apart was its remarkable cost efficiency, with the total cost for the entire tour amounting to just $116 per car. This figure proved to be approximately two times more cost-efficient than a similar trip with an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. This emphasis on cost-effectiveness underscored the viability of electric vehicles (EVs) in the region.
Youngtack Lee, President of Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ, expressed the company’s commitment to innovation and shaping the future of mobility. He highlighted Hyundai’s dedication to making electric vehicles more accessible as the definitive clean mobility solution. Lee acknowledged the success and excitement generated by the IONIQ 5 ASEAN Tour and expressed a commitment to intensifying comprehensive innovation to fortify the EV infrastructure and ecosystem across the region.
The groundbreaking electric mobility initiative featured five vehicles, two manufactured in Indonesia and three in Singapore. Collaborating with participants from the Association of Singapore (AAS), Hyundai Motor Company, local community influencers, and Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) from Indonesia and Thailand, the tour commenced in Singapore with a flag-off ceremony.
Throughout the tour, the IONIQ 5’s V2L technology transformed the vehicles into power hubs, enhancing outdoor experiences such as lighting, music performances, mini cinema events, and culinary experiences. Influencers and participants from each country shared their excitement and conviction in the potential of electric vehicles.
The tour’s grand finale in Ho Chi Minh City showcased an electrifying media convoy and featured testimonials from influencers like Fitra Eri, who emphasized the IONIQ 5’s ability to erase anxieties about long-distance drives and charging station availability. As the tour successfully crossed borders and showcased impressive range even in challenging stretches, Fitra predicted a transformative era for electric mobility in the ASEAN region, signaling its readiness for future electrification.
