For all you fanboys and fangirls of the FL5, allow us to let you feast your eyes on the Mugen Civic Type R. What you see here are photos of the Mugen’ized CTR and when we say it’s awesome, it may very well be an understatement. Okay, so it may not be as flashy as some other kits from other tuning houses, but this is still a sight to behold, and that’s not an overstatement.
Mugen Civic Type R now official
The first sneak peek of the Mugen Civic Type R was earlier this year at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, and now that it’s been made official, we already have the Group A kit in the metal, err, carbon fiber, err, both. The Group B kit features, from what we know, a carbon hood and other lightweight goodies, but that’s yet to be revealed given Mugen’s advice that it is still “under development”.
Regardless, here’s the Mugen Civic Type Group A kit in all its glory.
The aesthetic + exhaust kit comes complete with aero, performance, handling, braking, interior, and equipment pieces.
The aero consists of a front lip, side skirts, a rear diffuser, a rear wing, and front bumper garnish pieces. By the looks of it, they are all functional in increasing the downforce of the Mugen Civic Type R. As a bonus – and a defining piece that completes the Mugen look – the kit also comes with new LED taillight assemblies that offer a more unique look to the Civic Type R’s rear end.
Performance, handling, and braking upgrades are made up of an exhaust midpipe and muffler. Apparently, this piece is also under development but as with all Mugen exhaust pieces, this will make your engine breathe better and make more power. Strange, though, that there isn’t an exhaust manifold or headers in the photos. What makes it stand out even more is the single outlet pipe of its design. Multiple outlet pipes have been standard for the Civic Type R, but Mugen chose to shake things up a bit, and it looks pretty darn good.
Oil filter, forged 19″ Mugen FR10 wheels by BBS with with either Mugen or BBS center caps, Mugen lugnuts, performance dampers, Sports or Competition Brake pads, hi-temperature brake fluid, and the iconic Mugen “socks” or more formally known as reservoir tank covers are also part of the overall catalog of the Mugen kit.
Interior pieces of the kit that make the Mugen Civic Type R more unique include FIA-standard full-bucket Recaro seats, a carbon-trimmed steering wheel, red or black floor mats and trunk floor mat with Mugen badging, a carbon fiber shifter console accent plate, scuff plates, inner door opener protectors, and actual functional window visors that prevent backflow and makes use of negative pressure to discharge air from inside the cabin. Fancy that.
Finally, the equipment list of the Mugen Civic Type R kit includes the likes of 4 different Mugen shift knobs (Alcantara, leather-wrapped, carbon fiber, full metal, all-round in form and in different colors), “hydrophilic” LED-equipped side mirrors, a carbon fiber Mugen plate frame/garnish, license plate bolts with Mugen badging, exterior door handle scratch protectors, a sunshade, Mugen-badged Civic Type R key fob holders, and of course, metal Mugen emblems. One can’t properly Mugen’ize his Honda without this piece, right?
As it stands, and as we’ve said, the Mugen Civic Type R FL5 already looks awesome. With the Group A kit installed, it’s already this badass. Given the anticipation that Mugen is building for the Group B kit – with all its carbon fiber and presumably more radical kit and hopefully performance pieces – we hope it doesn’t take too long before it’s shown off to the public.
But let’s let the photos do the talking, shall we? So here you are, folks. The Mugen Civic Type R.
Let’s hope we don’t find Banawe’fied pieces before someone legitimately gets to Mugen’ize their FL5, yes?
