LOOK: DOTr’s new modern buses

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has recently shown what the updated buses will look like under its modernization program. The proposed buses’ specifications include closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, a GPS navigation system, an Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS), speed limiters, dashboard cameras, and Wi-Fi. In addition, instead of being powered by Euro 4 engines, modern buses should now be powered by Euro 5 engines, which might cost around Php8 to Php10 million pesos.

Old buses will be the next to be banned from roads as part of the government’s PUV modernization program, which kicked off at the start of this year with the gradual phaseout of old jeepneys.

  4. What they should also do, is pass laws regarding overloading PUVs. They shouldn’t fill up buses like sardine cans. Also the passenger limits on jeeps should be fixed. Just because they say the capacity is 18 and 9 can sit on each side isn’t always the case, people come in different sizes, some larger than others in most cases.
