It’s official. Named the Agya in Indonesia, the 2023 Toyota Wigo has just made its debut. The next generation of the brand’s popular sub-compact has broken its cover and is now here for the world to see. Let’s have a look, then, shall we?
New Toyota Wigo will also have a GR Sport variant
The new Wigo will still be the same pint-sized model that we all know and love, but it gets a full makeover that makes it look more mature and a lot sportier than the outgoing model.

Starting with its looks, its headlights are now more angular and taper off towards the fenders. Gone is the slim single-slat grill that has been replaced with a long chrome strip running between the headlights and with two more slats below the Toyota badge that neatly incorporates into the bumper’s front vents; think Innova. It also looks much wider now, thanks to a redesign of the fenders as well as the sharp angles and strong bulges on the bumper.
Looking at the side, the door moldings have also been taken off and give the illusion of a much bigger profile. Toyota gave the new Wigo a more pronounced beltline, accent line, and character line, and both further reinforce the sportier vibe of the new model. As for the rear, it strongly resembles that of the Axia – its Daihatsu twin – that we got a look at last week. The same strong lines are carried over to the back, and new taillight units make their way to the Wigo as well.

Inside, you’ll find the same minimalist interior albeit totally redesigned. It takes on a more streamlined and contemporary look with a neater design. The round air conditioning vents on the side of the dash have been replaced with square, slatted pieces, and the center vents are more rectangular now compared to the square shape of the older unit’s.
The center stack has also been given a makeover, with the infotainment screen now mounted to the top of the dashboard. The digital climate control was retained, though. Further down is a cupholder and a recess for your things and moving down and between the front seats is a very simple shifter console.
The motif is mainly gray and black, and while the seats are finished in fabric and most if not all the materials used are plastic, the addition of silver accent pieces around the dashboard and cabin gives a touch of refinement to the Wigo’s interior.

The most surprising bit of news, though, is that aside from what seems to be a lone, “regular” variant, the new Wigo will also get a GR Sport version. Aside from a differently-designed front and rear bumper, as well as GR alloy wheels, Toyota announced that the GR Sport Wigo will also get will deliver “outstanding driving performance” with its specially tuned power steering and steering gear, shock absorbers, and coil springs.
Special GR parts were also fitted into the interior of the top-end variant, which includes embroidered upholstery, a sporty digital gauge cluster, and what appears to be a leather shift boot, among others.
Powering the new Wigo is a new 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder dual VVT-i engine that’s good for 87 HP and 113 Nm of torque mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Yes, no more 4-speed automatic transmission for this new-generation Wigo.

And so, a new sub-compact from the country’s top-selling brand has been unveiled. As to when it will come to our shores is something we’ve yet to know. Considering how the following of the Wigo has kept on growing since its first release, Toyota Motor Philippines won’t be wasting too much time, we reckon. And we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled and our ears open for any further news on the Agya. Err, Wigo.
