The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has given the green light to open an additional 7,870 slots for TNVS-based public transportation provider Grab.
This was done to address demand as more of the country continues to ease quarantine restrictions. Thus, with more people moving around, the public transportation system needs to keep up.
Grab Philippines is the dominant TNVS operator in the country and expects more applicants to sign up now that the online portal is ready to accept applications.
“As soon as the LTFRB TNVS online portal is ready to accept TNVS driver sign-ups, we expect additional TNVS drivers to be on the road in 2-3 months’ time,” Grab said in a statement Thursday.
Furthermore, the transport provider said that these additional slots are necessary given the huge loss in driver numbers they experienced because of the COVID-19 pandemic wherein drivers gave up on working with the ride-hailing service because of the prolonged suspension due to the pandemic.
“This situation has created a serious imbalance to GrabCar’s supply and demand condition, resulting in fewer GrabCar driver-partners on the road having to serve an ever-increasing number of passengers,” Grab later added
Although they still said that even with the additional slots, it may still not be enough and hopes more will be opened eventually.
As mentioned earlier, the online portal for the additional TNVS slots is now open, according to a post by the LTFRB Facebook page earlier today. If you’re interested or know anybody interested in applying here is the actual post with links and requirements needed by the franchising agency.
