Kia is not wasting any time when it comes to leading the way for Electric Vehicle development and sales. After the (recent) and successful launch of the EV6 globally, the brand has just unveiled its latest EV, and EV SUV dubbed the EV9.
Kia EV9
The EV9 is the hotly anticipated follow-up to the award-winning EV6 sedan, the key difference being that the EV9 is a three-row EV SUV as opposed to the sedan body of the EV6. Despite the difference in segment and size, both vehicles share the same E-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform.
Powering the EV9 is the brand’s 4th generation battery technology, the rear-wheel drive standard variant has a 76.1 kWh battery while a 99.8 kWh battery is fitted to both the Rear Wheel Drive Long Range and All Wheel Drive variants. The brand claims that the longest cruising range of the EV9 is 540 kilometers, and an ultra-fast 800-watt charging capability recharges up to 239 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.
The engine fitted to the RWD long-range variant puts out 204 HP and 35 Nm of torque, there is an option to get a 217 HP and 350 Nm of torque motor as well. As for the AWD, it makes a healthy 384 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque, and even more, additional performance can be tapped via an optional boost feature to give a total of 700 Nm of torque during acceleration.
Looks wise the EV9 takes on the brand’s “opposites unite” concept to create a very boxy but also ultra-modern design. Despite its size, the EV9 delivers impressive aerodynamic qualities with a drag coefficient of just 0.28. This is thanks to a 3D-sculpted underbody cover, aerodynamic wheels, and air curtains integrated into the front bumper.
