This weekend, Lamborghini Iron Lynx embarks on the most significant race in its history, vying for victory at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans with two Lamborghini SC63 LMDh prototypes. This event marks the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Edoardo Mortara rejoins the #63 entry for the full FIA WEC season, partnering with Mirko Bortolotti and Daniil Kvyat. Meanwhile, Andrea Caldarelli teams up with IMSA regulars Romain Grosjean and Matteo Cairoli in the #19 car, making its FIA WEC debut.
Lamborghini will also contend in the LMGT3 category with two Huracán GT3 EVO2s. After securing their first FIA WEC podium at Spa-Francorchamps, Franck Perera, Claudio Schiavoni, and Matteo Cressoni will reunite in the #60 car. Michelle Gatting, Sarah Bovy, and Rahel Frey will continue in the #85 Iron Dames machine, despite a late change due to Doriane Pin’s rib injury.
Preparations for the race have already begun, with public scrutineering in Le Mans city center followed by the official Test Day on June 8-9. This provided the team with its first laps on the iconic 13.626km Circuit de la Sarthe before official practice begins on June 12.
During the Test Day, the #63 finished as the seventh fastest among 23 Hypercar entries, while the #19 concluded its first FIA WEC day in 18th.
The #63 has experienced mixed fortunes this season. After finishing 13th in the opening round in Qatar, the team saw performance improvements at Imola, finishing 12th. However, a suspension failure led to a non-finish at the 6 Hours of Spa.
The #19 has had limited race time in 2024, with its only outing at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March. Despite being primarily a test event, the team secured a seventh-place finish, demonstrating the car’s reliability.
For Lamborghini Iron Lynx, the primary goals remain data gathering and ensuring reliability for the SC63 in both FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship. The addition of a second car aims to strengthen the team’s platform for the second half of the season.
In LMGT3, expectations are high following strong performances in Belgium. The #60 narrowly missed victory, finishing third after a late fuel stop, while the #85 Iron Dames, after leading from pole, finished fifth due to a similar late pit stop.
The Circuit de la Sarthe, a 13.626km, 38-turn track combining permanent circuit and public roads, offers numerous overtaking opportunities and unique challenges. Key sections include the flowing Virage de la Chapelle and Esses de la Fôret, the high-speed Ligne droite des Hunaudières, and the demanding Porsche Curves. Weather conditions can vary across the track, making tire strategy crucial.

Le Mans week is exceptionally busy for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, also featuring round three of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe championship and the Road to Le Mans races. In the latter, Iron Dames will be represented by Karen Gaillard and Célia Martin in the #83 Huracán GT3 EVO2.
