Mazda Motor Corporation has officially unveiled its new electric crossover SUV, the Mazda EZ-60, at the 21st Shanghai Auto Show. Changan Mazda Motor Corporation, a joint venture between Mazda and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd, presented the new model. This is finally the production version based on the Mazda Arata Concept revealed last year.
The EZ-60 is Mazda’s second electric vehicle, developed and built by Changan Mazda following the launch of the MAZDA EZ-6 last year. The new SUV is scheduled to go on sale in China in 2025 and will expand Mazda’s lineup of New-Energy Vehicles in the market.
Designed to appeal to Chinese consumers, the EZ-60 will be available in battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants. It features modern styling focusing on aerodynamics, including air passageways at the hood for improved efficiency. The design theme, “FUTURE + SOUL x MODERN,” reflects Mazda’s goal of combining elegant aesthetics with a modern lifestyle image.
The vehicle is engineered for driving enjoyment, with a 50:50 weight distribution, strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, and electronically controlled dampers. The BEV model is expected to offer a driving range of around 600 km, while the PHEV version aims for over 1,000 km per refueling.
Inside, the EZ-60 offers a range of innovative features. These include a cabin that responds to voice, touch, and gesture commands, intelligent driving assistance systems, and an innovative parking feature controllable by voice from outside the vehicle. The dashboard has a 26.45-inch 5K display and a virtual 3D heads-up display, enhancing safety and the user experience.
The sound system includes 23 speakers and a 3D audio setup, with headrest speakers allowing individual audio experiences for the driver and front passenger.
Mazda President and CEO Masahiro Moro highlighted the significance of the launch during Changan Mazda’s 20th anniversary, stating that the EZ-60 represents a collaboration between Mazda and Changan tailored to China’s evolving market.
Mazda says it will continue to focus on its core value of “Joy of Driving” and aims to offer “Joy of Living” by delivering engaging mobility solutions for daily life.
