Nearly a year after the announcement of the Magma performance brand and the GV60 Concept, Genesis has presented the next phase of its brand direction with the global debut of the production version GV60 Magma and the Magma GT Concept. The reveal took place at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, marking the official launch of the brand’s “Luxury High Performance” vision, which will guide its evolution over the next decade.

Hyundai Motor Company President & CEO José Muñoz said the new direction builds on the momentum of Genesis, which achieved one million global sales faster than any other luxury marque. “Magma represents our declaration that the next ten years will be even more significant,” he said.

Genesis describes its new positioning as a blend of luxury and performance that prioritizes balance, precision, and driver engagement over headline power outputs. Chief Design Officer Luc Donckerwolke said Magma elevates Genesis toward “true luxury through performance,” aiming to mix emotion with technical accuracy.

The brand’s performance philosophy brings its “Athletic Elegance” design language into a more dynamic space, focusing on controlled power, tuned driving dynamics and a strong driver-vehicle connection.

The GV60 Magma is the production version of the concept first shown last year. It represents the first concrete expression of the Magma program and draws from earlier high-performance experiments, including the GV80 Coupe Concept, X Gran Berlinetta Concept, and G80 Magma Special.

The model focuses on three attributes: design presence, driving control, and an immersive user experience.

The GV60 Magma adopts a low, wide stance with subtle high-performance cues. Black high-gloss details, dark metal accents and functional aerodynamic elements define the exterior. The ride height is reduced by 20 mm, with wide fenders, 21-inch forged wheels and 275-mm tires.

Airflow is improved through three-hole side-skirt detailing and a rear wing-type spoiler that also generates downforce. The rear diffuser and bumper design further support aerodynamic performance.

Inside, the cabin features Chamude (a premium suede-like material), with orange and gray stitching and Magma-specific elements. High-gloss black and dark metal trim reduce glare, while the steering wheel gets exclusive Magma badging and controls.

The electric motors produce 448 kW (609 hp) and 740 Nm of torque, increasing to 478 kW (650 hp) and 790 Nm in Boost Mode, which is available for roughly 15 seconds. The top speed is a respectable 264 km/h.

Launch Control enables a 0–200 km/h time of 10.9 seconds. Drive modes include Sprint, GT, and a customizable MY Mode, which lets drivers adjust settings for e-LSD and ESC.

The suspension has been recalibrated for improved stability and comfort, featuring ECS, End-of-Travel control, and upgraded bushings. Brakes include front monoblock calipers and large-diameter discs, along with high-friction materials at the rear.

Noise control is addressed through Active Noise Control-Road, sound-insulating glass and enhanced door sealing.

A Magma-specific digital interface delivers key drive information. Activating “Magma Mode” brings up a three-circle cluster layout showing motor temperatures, speed, and G-force. The Head-Up Display presents simplified essentials, such as regenerative braking levels and boost time.

The infotainment system adds features such as Virtual Gear Shift System (VGS), Drift Mode, and High-Performance Battery Control (HPBC). VGS adjusts torque and regenerative braking to mimic the feel of a high-revving combustion engine, complete with sound simulation. Drift Mode uses power distribution and the e-LSD to support rear-biased driving.

The GV60 Magma Concept also previously won its class at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed Sunday Shootout, completing the 1.86-km run in 52.72 seconds.

The GV60 Magma will first launch in Korea, followed by Europe and North America in 2026, as Genesis expands its presence in the high-performance luxury segment. As for the rest of Asia, and more specifically the Philippines, Genesis has yet to establish its presence in the country.
