One of the most talked-about new models right now is the return of the Honda Prelude. The storied and legendary coupe nameplate is set to make a splash on the global market as a normal 2-door coupe, but it seems the automaker has other plans for it as well.

Honda Prelude GT500 Racer
Just unveiled by the Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is a racecar based on the Prelude set to take on the Japanese Super GT series. Powering this all out beast of a race car is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 650 HP.
Other race-ready improvements include a fully carbon fiber monocoque chassis and full carbon fiber body panels. As expected, the whole car has also been dramatically lowered and given more aerodynamic bits necessary for better performance out on track.

The debut of this new Honda Prelude GT500 is set to be sometime in April next year; the Prelude is actually replacing the Civic Type R GT for this race series. Other notable opponents in the Super GT series include the Nissan Z Nismo GT500 and (so far) all dominating Toyota Supra GT500.
One thing on the minds of most people following the new Preludes story is that with a race car now unveiled, could we eventually get a Prelude Type-R?
