The motorsport star was well-known for his numerous accolades and high-adrenaline gymkhana videos. If anyone can make smoke-filled donuts or drift a car at the craziest of angles, it was Ken Block. Being described by Hoonigan Industries as “a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and a husband.” makes the loss a lot harder for everyone who’s known and held him up on a pedestal where he rightfully belongs.

It was in 2005 when Ken Block started his motorsport career in rally racing. After several wins, podium finishes, and X Games medals after, he wasn’t done. Gymkhana 3 to 10 became his playground as well. It was here that his videos of throwing his cars sideways, lighting tires up in plumes of smoke, and just having fun and leaving everyone in awe made him even more famous than he already was.

First partnered with Ford, Block and the American manufacturer parted ways in 2021 and saw his move to Audi thereafter. His most recent “drive” was in the “Electrikhana” video that was shot in Las Vegas with Block behind the wheel of an all-electric Audi S1 Hoonitron, specifically built for the decorated driver by his team.

“We are saddened by this news and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends Ken was a pioneer and in recent years also a member of the Audi family. He was valued and warmly welcomed by all. We have lost a great person and respected sportsman, who will always have his place in the history of Audi Sport.” – Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board for Technical Development at AUDI AG

Outside of motorsport, Ken Block also co-founded DC Shoes. The brand started out as early as 1994 and specialized in footwear for action sports such as snowboarding and skateboarding. It also expanded into the production of apparel, bags, hats, and even posters.

Ken Block is survived by his wife and three children. For sure, he will be missed very much by all. Actually, we’re sure he already is.

Rest in peace, champ!
