Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced its intention to participate in the Philippine government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS), signaling a potential expansion of its electrification efforts in the country.

The plan was discussed during a meeting between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Mitsubishi Motors President and CEO Takao Kato.
Pending approval of its EVIS application, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) intends to begin local production of a new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) at its Santa Rosa City manufacturing facility by mid-2028.

To support the rollout, MMPC is planning additional investments, including upgrades to its production facilities to accommodate the manufacturing of electrified vehicles. The company said these efforts are expected to help expand the local supply chain and create more jobs in the region.

Kato emphasized the importance of the Philippine market to Mitsubishi Motors, noting the company’s long-standing presence in both production and sales. He added that participation in the EVIS program would allow the automaker to contribute to the country’s push for vehicle electrification while supporting broader industrial development and economic growth.

So, Hybrid Xpander or Destinator, anyone? An L300 HEV doesn’t sound like a bad idea either, with the rising oil prices.
