NVIDIA announces Tegra X1 mobile superchip

NVIDIA has announced today the Tegra X1 – a new mobile superchip that is capable of 1 teraflop of processing power.

The NVIDIA Tegra X1 sports an 8-core 64-bit CPU, 256-core Maxwell GPU, and supports 4Kp60 10-bit video in H.265/VP9. According to NVIDIA, the Tegra X1 is the first mobile chip to provide a teraflop of processing power. It has the exact same engine that runs in high-end PCs and next-gen game consoles but consumes less power. Compared to the Intel Core i7, NVIDIA claims that the X1 uses only a tenth of the power.

NVIDIA also announced the NVIDIA DRIVE CX, the first device that the Tegra X1 will be powering. It’s a digital cockpit computer for next-gen cars that supports high-res screens and comes with a software called the NVIDIA DRIVE Studio – an infotainment system and virtual cockpit combined into one computer and supports any operating system. Partners can also use DRIVE Studio as a platform to integrate their technology for next-gen cars.
