LTFRB questions Uber’s new fixed surcharges for southern Metro Manila

Listen to article

The LTFRB has posted today a press release stating that Uber must file a position paper on the matter of adding additional surcharge on top of fares and toll fees for riders in the southern part of Metro Manila, for the board’s deliberation and consideration

On top of the standard fare and toll rates, riders going to the Bicutan and Sucat areas will have to pay an extra Php80, and those going to Alabang, Filinvest, and Susana Heights will have to pay an extra Php100. Uber claims that this surcharge scheme is in response to the increasing interest of riders from southern Metro Manila.

These charges have been in place for a very long time now. When you go East (Cainta, Taytay, Antipolo) there are corresponding surcharges as well.

True. The East surcharge is P60. LTFRB is nitpicking. Why not do something about the extortionist tactics of taxi drivers charging P3k from the airport to Cubao EVEN after reassuring the passenger before boarding that they will use their meter.

I am aware of that, which I realize now makes little to no sense for Uber to charge 80-100 pesos going South when they only charge 60 pesos to go to Cainta. That is on top of the toll fees should they pass through SLEX/Skyway.
