Geely Okavango gets an awesome 5-star rating from ASEAN NCAP

If there’s an MPV that’s got enough of a following to challenge the Innova, it’s the Geely Okavango. Seeing as it’s considered a family car by most, safety for everyone should be a primary concern. Owners, rejoice, as the latest ASEAN NCAP test gave your Geely a sterling 5-star safety rating!

Before we proceed, we’d like to mention that the specific vehicle that ran the ASEAN NCAP gauntlet was not the Geely Okavango. Rather, it did not have the Geely badge. It was the Proton X90, its Malaysian counterpart. But not to worry as it’s the same as what we get here. With that put aside, we can now get to the nitty gritty.

In a nutshell, the MPV got a total score of 83.75 points on the assessment. This score was enough to earn it a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating.

Down to specifics, the Okavango got 37.75 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.79 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 15.71 points for the Safety Assist (SA) category, and 12.50 points for Motorcyclist Safety (MS).

The Okavango rated 14.20 out of 16.00 for adult occupant protection (AOP), while the side impact test yielded a perfect 8.00 out of 8.00 in the front offset crash test. It gets more impressive in the full frontal and side-impact tests where it got perfect scores for both. Adding the standard safety assist technologies such as the Seatbelt Reminder (SBR) Rear Occupant Detection, Blind Spot Detection and Blind Spot Visualization, and auto high beams, among many others, you have yourself a winning safety package in this 7-seater.

Some would naysay about our earlier statement about the Okavango going up against the Innova. Reality check: the sheer number of them on the road already speaks volumes. And after its ASEAN NCAP safety test, it just proves how long Geely (and even some China-made cars like the Territory) have come.

Model volume speaks volumes as far as the following and faith in a vehicle go. So Okavango owners, congrats! You have yourselves a pretty safe, China-built family car.
