2022 Honda Civic e:HEV set to launch in Thailand; could PH get it too?

Listen to article

A couple of months ago, Europe got the hybrid version of the all-new Honda Civic. We’re delighted to report that our region (ASEAN) is finally getting it too in Thailand.

Honda Thailand has announced that they will be launching the Honda Civic e:HEV on June 15, 2022. It will be launched in two variants, namely the e:HEV EL+ and the e:HEV RS. Interestingly, according to the Honda Thailand website the normal 1.5-liter turbo RS variant has been replaced by the e:HEV version. Although, the 1.5-liter turbo remains for the EL and EL plus variants.

Honda Civic e:HEV Specs

The compact sedan will be powered by the same 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine that Europe gets. This powertrain will still be connected to two electric motors and a new, more compact battery pack that, in total, produces 181hp and 315Nm. Those power figures are significantly more than the 1.5-liter turbo we have available locally.

What makes this news significant? The Honda Civic sold locally is sourced from Thailand. So could it mean we’ll eventually get the Honda Civic e:HEV soon? will it also replace the turbo RS version? we’ll have to wait and see.
