Toyota’s always been at the forefront of hybrid technology; they are considered pioneers in the area. In more recent times, though, they’ve been keen on introducing the fuel-saving, environmentally friendly technology across all models.
Toyota Indonesia gets first dibs on Veloz Hybrid
Our ASEAN neighbor Indonesia has just snuck in one more big launch before the year ends, by introducing a hybrid version of a best-selling MPV; the Veloz. This doesn’t come as a surprise because the Veloz is a Daihatsu (DNGA) platform product, which is built from the ground up in Indonesia.

Creating the Toyota Veloz HEV was just a matter of when, not if, given that within the Daihatsu-Toyota family runs a few HEV powertrains already. Specifically, the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated (but electrified) motor that makes 109 Ps (Combined), which is already in the Yaris Cross and Yaris Ativ, with the latter already making a PH debut last month.
While there are no complete details and photos as of the moment, based on the launch video, the exterior basically remains the same, which clearly indicates that this isn’t a completely new model, but a mild update. Given the popularity of the Avanza and Veloz in the Philippines, it’s safe to assume that the HEV variant could make its way here soon, making it the first full hybrid MPV in its segment.
