Volvo unveils EX30 Cross Country: A rugged version of its electric SUV

Volvo has introduced the EX30 Cross Country, an all-electric small SUV designed for adventure. Unveiled in a secluded winter cabin in northern Sweden alongside outdoor gear brand Fjällräven, the new model blends urban practicality with off-road capability, which is true to the Volvo Cross Country vehicles of the past.

The EX30 Cross Country builds upon the standard EX30 by incorporating rugged features tailored for off-road use. A raised chassis provides better ground clearance, while larger wheels, including an optional 18-inch all-terrain tire package, enhance its durability. The model also features all-wheel drive, ensuring stability on snow and ice.

Volvo CEO Jim Rowan highlighted the company’s legacy with Cross Country models, emphasizing their suitability for harsh winters and outdoor exploration. The EX30 Cross Country continues this tradition, offering a balance of adventure-readiness and everyday usability.

The model retains the electric efficiency of the EX30, boasting a range of up to 427 km and fast-charging capabilities that allow it to go from 10-80% in just 26 minutes. Inside, smart storage solutions enhance functionality. The sound system is integrated into a dashboard soundbar, freeing up door space, while a central storage tunnel provides versatile compartments. A removable storage box beneath the rear seats can double as a waste bin.

The vehicle’s rugged exterior features a dark-colored front shield, boot lid, and a topographic design inspired by Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain range. Chunky front and rear skid plates and wheel arch extensions reinforce its off-road capability.

Safety remains a priority for Volvo. The EX30 Cross Country includes advanced driver-assistance features to help prevent collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. A driver monitoring system detects signs of fatigue or distraction. Google Maps integration ensures seamless navigation, while the Volvo EX30 app allows users to precondition the car remotely.

The Volvo EX30 Cross Country is now available for order in selected markets, and deliveries will begin later this spring. Seeing as the regular EX30 is available in the Philippines, we could probably expect Volvo Philippines to bring in the EX30 Cross Country sooner rather than later.
