BYD Cars Philippines, a subsidiary of ACMobility, has officially launched the new BYD Sealion 5 DM-i, a subcompact electrified SUV powered by the brand’s Super DM-i hybrid technology. Designed to offer practicality, range, and affordability, the Sealion 5 DM-i is aimed at first-time buyers and everyday drivers looking for a more efficient alternative to traditional vehicles. This launch also further solidifies BYD Philippines’ lineup.

Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, said the new model is ideal for buyers who value advanced technology, practicality, and long-range capability. “As more Filipinos adopt electrified mobility, the Sealion 5 DM-i will serve as the gateway to BYD and ACMobility’s vision of a greener Philippines,”

The Sealion 5 DM-i features BYD’s Super DM-i system, combining an electric-first powertrain with a high-efficiency generator. It produces a combined 197 PS and 300 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Drivers can choose between Economy, Normal, and Sport modes, with a claimed total range of over 1,000 km.

Its 12.96 kWh Blade Battery offers up to 71 km of pure electric driving range under the NEDC standard. Charging is supported via a 3.3 kW AC charger, with a full charge from 15% taking approximately 4.5 hours. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing it to power external devices when needed.

In a recent test supervised by the Automobile Association Philippines, racing legends George and Louis Ramirez drove the Sealion 5 DM-i across the Luzon Loop. The SUV completed a total of 1,409.7 km on a full battery and fuel tank, achieving an efficiency of 25.273 km/l. The test route included city, highway, mountainous, and rural roads.

The Sealion 5 DM-i measures 4,738 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, giving it a strong road presence while remaining agile. Exterior features include full LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated power mirrors with puddle lamps, and roof rails.

Inside, the crossover is equipped with leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also supports apps like karaoke, streaming, navigation, and web browsing through the BYD Store. Other features include NFC card entry, push-start ignition, USB ports, and over-the-air updates via the BYD Cloud Service and App.

Safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, ABS, EBD, and anti-rollover protection. The SUV also has cruise control and rear parking sensors with a camera.

Warranty coverage includes:
- 8 years/160,000 km for the Blade Battery
- 8 years/150,000 km for the electric motor and control systems
- 6 years/150,000 km for the vehicle

The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is priced from ₱1,248,000, with an introductory cash price of ₱1,198,000. Financing options include a low down payment of ₱88,000. With estimated fuel and maintenance savings of up to 40% compared to conventional vehicles, the Sealion 5 DM-i is positioned as a cost-effective entry into electrified mobility.
It is available in Arctic White, Harbour Grey, Cosmos Black, and Deep Sea Blue, all matched with a beige and brown two-tone interior.
