New Single Ticketing System to make violation settlement easier under proposed Metro Manila Traffic Code?
We all know how horribly tedious it is to settle a traffic violation. To address this, a new Single Ticketing System was part of the proposed Metro Manila Traffic Code. The said Code means to “unify” the systems and databases of all cities under the MMDA’s jurisdiction and the Ticketing System is just one way to make the settlement of violations easier across LGUs.

To put things into perspective, it is normal for anyone caught for a violation to settle it in the City where he or she was caught. At this point, we can even raise the point that those caught by the MMDA will have to settle it in their head office in Orense, Makati. So if you live, say, in the more northern parts of the Metro, you’ll have to slog through traffic to get there, find a parking slot, and go about your business.
Perhaps this Ticketing System under the proposed Metro Manila Traffic Code can also remedy this. It’s been reported that according to Atty. Victor Nunez, Traffic Discipline & Enforcement Office head of the MMDA, all mayors are unanimous in their view towards the yet-to-be-completed System and Code. This was after a meeting about the Single Ticketing System Technical Working Group composed of traffic heads of different LGUs, the MMDA, and the LTO.
By way of a central database, ticketing and fines for violations will be easily accessible by the authorities in the National Capital Region; this is why at this point, we surmise that easier settlement is one of the more important draws of the proposal.
Apart from this, the Code also provides for interconnectivity with the LTO to standardize the apprehension of traffic law violators. Apprehension being mentioned, the No-Contact Apprehension Policy was also brought up in the meeting. Nunez added that the Techincal Working Group (TWG) means to fix the NCAP and will push for proper training and education for anyone who wishes to join the Local Traffic Unit of LGUs on traffic laws.
No other specifics were mentioned as of this posting, but the LTO is set to lead the third meeting on both the establishment of the Metro Manila Traffic Code and the Single Ticketing System with the TWG this coming 22nd of November.

So far, that’s one provision that we think is pretty important. In the name of convenience and standardization, we are all for it. But of course, the agreement of many will still be up in the air pending more specifics as both the Code and System are finalized. Not that the government needs the public’s agreement to implement their proposals, but we’re sure they’ll take public opinion under advisement.
