HiPhi unveils the future-ready Hypercar: The HiPhi A

Shanghai-based electric car manufacturer HiPhi has revealed its latest creation, the ‘A,’ a four-door, four-seat electric hypercar that builds upon the design and engineering of its previous ‘Z’ model. The company, known for its innovative electric vehicles, has showcased and unveiled an actual car rather than mere renderings at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show, with the first customer deliveries expected in early 2025.

For this project, HiPhi collaborated with the Chinese brand WESAIL, incorporating components from WESAIL’s existing Apollo hypercar project. The collaboration has resulted in an impressive set of performance statistics for the HiPhi A, including an output of 1,287 hp, a rapid zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of just over two seconds, and an impressive top speed of 300 km/h. These bold figures are made possible by the integration of a battery and motor from WESAIL’s Apollo hypercar.

The A employs an 800V platform, featuring three electric motors—one at the front and two at the rear. The electric powertrain is complemented by a carbon fiber battery pack, capable of discharging 1.5 megawatts of power at its peak. The advanced design incorporates a carbon-fiber rotor and magnetic cylinder coil cooling technology, allowing the A to reach an impressive 22,000rpm, nearly double the speed of a modern Formula 1 car.

The hypercar’s exterior design is equally striking, featuring GT-R-esque headlights, a distinct hexagonal grille, and a red vinyl line running along the body kit. Carbon fiber dominates the outer shell, providing a matte finish reminiscent of high-performance racing cars. The alloy wheels add a touch of flair with a colorful mix outlining each of the five sections.

In terms of performance dynamics, the HiPhi A is expected to excel in handling, thanks to rear-wheel active steering, a near 50:50 weight distribution, and torque vectoring technology. The collaboration with ShanghaiTech University in various development processes further underscores the innovative approach to manufacturing and design.

HiPhi’s founder and CEO, David Ding, emphasized the transformative nature of the hypercar, stating, “From the internal combustion engine era to the new era of intelligent electric mobility, the top hypercars should represent the pinnacle of innovative technology while still paying tribute to the classics, showcasing the transformative nature as a way to look toward the future.”

Production of the HiPhi A is slated to begin on a limited-run basis in the first quarter of 2025, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of intelligent electric mobility.

While HiPhi has already set up shop in a number of European countries, we don’t expect HiPhi to be available here in the Philippines anytime soon.
