In a report by PhilStar, officials of the DOTr told senators during a recent hearing on the department’s proposed budget for 2017 that they cannot address the backlog on car plates and driver’s license cards due to pending legal issues. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) can proceed with the production once the injunction issued by the court has been lifted.
The LTO is also in talks with APO Production Unit Inc. for the driver’s licenses and can start production in six months once an agreement has been signed. As for the car plates, the DOTr said that the procurement had to be done next year because of the lack of funds under this year’s national budget.
