Earlier this month, a fare hike for jeepneys was implemented. The Land Transporation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has a reminder, though: the updated Jeepney Fare Matrix must be displayed for all passengers to see. Without it, drivers cannot charge higher fares.
Jeepney Fare Matrix/Guide required to charge higher/updated fares
In a reminder posted on its Facebook page, the LTFRB reminded operators to go to their Regional Franchising and Regulatory Office (RFRO) to apply for a Fare Matrix/Guide that must be displayed inside their PUJs for all to see. Without it, operators and drivers have no authority to charge the updated and higher fares that were approved last month and implemented last October 4, 2022.
Passengers and commuters are likewise reminded to be on the lookout for the Jeepney Fare Matrix when they board. If there is none displayed, then they are only required to pay for the previous base fare which was PHP 11 for traditional jeepneys and PHP 13 for modern jeepneys. Drivers (and operators) who do not accept the lower fares can be reported, too.
According to Joint Administrative Order no. 2014-01 and conditions stated in their Certificate of Public Convenience (CPO), those in violation will be handed sanctions. Such violations and incidences can be reported to the LTFRB via their official Facebook page and Messenger, their 1342 Hotline, or through their email address [email protected].
So for operators, make sure you comply, and for passengers, make sure you keep an eye out for a visibly displayed Jeepney Fare Matrix when you hop on.
